Ranthambhore National Park

One of the largest national parks in north India is Ranthambhore National Park.  It is in Sawai madhopur district of Rajasthan State.  Location of park is at the junction of the aravalli and vindhya hill range, and this is one of the best places to watch animals.

Ranthambhore was established in 1955 by the government of India as the Sawai Madhopur game Sanctuary.  In 1980 Ranthambhore is declared as National Park.  The forest nearer to national park was declared as Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary in 1984. In 1991 Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary was kept reserved for project tiger.

Ranthambhore park is well known for its tiger and is one of the best places in India to view and study wildlife. In this park you can easily spot tigers even during day time. The best time to visit Ranthambhore national park is the month of May and November when dry forest makes the sighting more beautiful.  Ranthambhore have the large number of tiger population. During past few years, because of poaching and other reasons the tiger population has decreased. Apart from tigers Ranthambhore have thriving birds of more than 270 different species.

The forest covers larger area which consists of dry deciduous elements. There are many species of trees are available. In the valley you can also fins mix deciduous elements and water bodies. Almost 539 species of flowering plants are represented in flora of the park.

Safari Rides

National park allowed safari riders. The ride last for 3 hours. Two rides are in the evening time. Two types of vehicles are used for ride one is 20 seated and 6 seated car which have open top to view wildlife; these are affordable rides and you can easily rent these economic cars. The national park is divided into number of zone. Every zone is shown in safari rides.

Padam Talao

There are many lakes located inside national park but this is the largest amongst all of them.  Jogi mahal which is created with red sandstone is located at the edge of this talao. India largest gigantic banyan tree is situated near the lake.

Ranthambore Fort

This majestic fort was built in 10th century. It have height of 700 feet from surrounding plain. There are three temples inside the fort which are devoted to lord Ganesh, Shiva and Ramlalaji. These temples were constructed in 12th century and were built using red Karauli Stones.


Ranthambhore national park is one of the parks where you will find large population of tiger. This is the place where you can easily spot majestic predators under sun light.

How to Reach

Covers core area of 275km2 and 392km2 including buffer zones. The forest covers area of 1334km2 which is reserved for tigers. If you want to reach Ranthambhore national park by means of air, the nearest airport is located in 180 km from park is Jaipur. For railway tourist nearest railway station is Sawai Madhopur Reilway station. This station lies on Delhi to Mumbai route. If you like road journey, there is a good network of roadways which connectes sawai maghopur. The nearest town is Ranthambhore. The direct service is not great; you have to go by roads if you have a luxury or economic vehicles you can go to either Dausa or Tonk.
